POW Lake Recreation Area

Overview
Operated by the United States Forest Service, POW Lake Recreation Area is located within the De Soto National Forest.
This recreation site lies beside a 7 acre lake at the southern end of the Tuxachanie National Recreation Hiking Trail. This is an abandoned World War II German Prisoner of War Camp and Navy rifle range. The old ammunition bunkers are still present. This rustic area provides primitive camping, fishing, and hiking. The lake provides fishing opportunities for bass, bream, white perch, and catfish. There are no restrooms or drinking water. The P.O.W. Lake Recreation Area is open year-round unless weather conditions require the area to be closed. No user fees required.
Directions: Take HWY 49 to Saucier. Take HWY 67 east to four-way intersection and get on County Road 402 (Bethel Road) approximately four miles to P.O.W. camp.
