BB Jennings Park

BB Jennings Park is a “living laboratory” because of its ability to showcase native plant and animal species, but also because of how these natural features affect the city’s water sources. The absorbent native plants prevent excess water from entering the bayous and rivers. They also filter out toxins and sediment deposits that rain water picks up as it rolls off of nearby rooftops and roads. When these toxins and the excess sediment flow out into the bayous and rivers, it impacts their ability to perform their primary eco-system functions of storing floodwaters, recharging groundwater aquifers, and providing habitat for fish and waterfowl.
